Private MBA Colleges in India: Entrance Routes Beyond CAT

CAT is the best-known MBA entrance in India, but it is far from the only one. Many private B-schools admit on other national tests or run their own. Knowing which test opens which school is the difference between a focused application season and a scattered one.

The main routes into private MBA programmes

National tests

• CAT — run by the IIMs and widely accepted by other B-schools, including TAPMI.
• XAT — run by XLRI and used by XIM University and many others.
• NMAT by GMAC — used for NMIMS MBA admission and accepted elsewhere.

Institution-specific tests

• SNAP — for MBA programmes across Symbiosis institutes.
• MICAT — MICA’s own test, taken alongside a CAT, XAT or GMAT score.
• IBSAT — for the ICFAI Business Schools, including IBS Hyderabad.
• UPESMET — for MBA at UPES.

Planning around the calendar
